Challenges in physiotherapy
Physiotherapy departments are rarely working optimally in hospitals. Department outlook can be outdated with a collection of various, mismatched devices accumulated over the years. Treatments are designed often randomly using methods that are either not recommended anymore by medical guidelines or are carried out with sub-optimal devices. Producing the services is expensive and difficult to scale economically. Treatment success is difficult to copy because it is highly dependent on each therapist’s skills.
Demand for physiotherapy services is growing due to an aging population and increasingly sedentary lifestyle. There is also strong scientific evidence that active physiotherapy can produce equally good results as surgery in many degenerative joint problems. This opens up new opportunities in physiotherapy, but current techniques and tools are not sufficient in the rapidly developing environment.
The DAVID Exercise Therapy Solution is a comprehensive platform, prepared to take full advantage of these new opportunities.
“The new approach is to turn the focus to the value produced for the patient and use only methods that are evidence-based to be the most cost-effective and safe”
Designed for efficiency
The DAVID platform is specially designed to run large patient volumes with automated individualization, high quality of care and ease of reporting. Resource use is optimised due to device intelligence and patient engagement. HL7 compatibility allows full integration to patient record systems.
Produce value for patients affordably
Quality care does not need to be expensive to produce. Physiotherapists can focus on patient motivation and well-being while modern technology takes care of the repetitive work precisely and safely. This boosts patient satisfaction while the cost per session remains significantly lower than with traditional physiotherapy. Furthermore, the bulk of the manual work occurs in the first session when the patient is run in. After this the workload is dramatically reduced, and the physiotherapist can focus on more critical tasks.
“A critical component is the ability to measure results in ways that makes sense to the patients as well as the payers”
Future proof investment
DAVID technology is built to last. Fully functional DAVID systems are still operational after 25 years. All software systems are Linux-based and updated automatically. New features are added and available instantly for everyone. Best practises from around the world are shared. Third party technology is added to the platform simplifying data collection and reporting.
Benefit from the data
Show your results systematically with minimum resource use. DAVID platform collects all testing and training data automatically, questionnaires via email, table or smartphone and reporting is done with a push of a button. HL7 integration transfers all relevant data to the hospital’s EMR system. But outcomes are not only important for doctors and payers, they are essential for program planning and patient motivation.

Below you can download our white paper which explains more in detail the scientific, technical and economic background of DAVID’s solution. You can also contact us for more information. The best way to understand the uniqueness of the system is to see and try it in practice. We are more than happy to organise such a visit.
We at St. Lucas in Bruges, Belgium adopted the use of device based back treatment already in 1998. Due to the evidence of its efficacy, a national insurance code was issued for this method in 2002. In December of 2015 we moved to a new phase in our operation when we changed to a fully integrated DAVID Solution with automatic adjustments, patient guidance and tracking of all critical variables. Our experience is that patients are more motivated, results seem to be better and integration to the hospital’s electronic patient record system saves a lot of administrational work.
